Classroom:Rachel Buehler is a Human Biology major with a 4.0 at Stanford University. She is a pre-med student with demanding courses such as physiology, sports medicine and nutrition and cancer. Gaining experience as a research assistant at the Tsao Lab, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University, she investigated the association between obesity, insulin and glucose levels and heart function in mice and humans. She is currently a founding member of the American Media Student Association at Stanford, and once shadowed doctors at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA. Adding even more to her academic success Buehler has been named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic First Team All District VIII.
Character:Leadership has been one of Buehler’s defining characteristics. As a national contender and captain of this year’s Stanford Women’s Soccer team, she exemplifies the epitome of a leader to her peers. Not only does she dominate on the field, but also in the classroom with an All-Academic All-American title preceding her athletics achievements.
Competition:Buehler has made some major athletic accomplishments on the collegiate level. She is the team captain of a national Top five team. She has been named All-American and a National Player of the Year finalist. She led Stanford's defense to 15 shutouts last season and only allowed .55 goals per game. She was also one of four players to start all 23 games last season for Stanford and earned numerous Pac-10 selections.
