Classroom:Roth is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, earning the honor as a sophomore and a junior. Roth boasts a 3.047 grade point average while majoring in communication studies.
Character:Roth plays the game with a great deal of respect and humility. He is quick to praise his teammates following a victory and always represents himself, the Northwestern soccer program, and the university with the utmost class. He also earns the respect of the individuals against whom he competes.
Community:At the Oakton Soccer Group, Roth and members of the Men’s Soccer team, throughout the spring quarter, visited Oakton Elementary School to teach third grade students important life and soccer skills. During the month of June, Roth and the Men’s Soccer team participated in NU Field Day, where approximately 150 kids from the Youth Organization Umbrella (Y.O.U), Family Focus, School for Little Children and the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center came to Northwestern to participate in different activity stations run by the student-athletes. In May at the Baker Demonstration School, Roth and members of the Men’s Soccer team participated in Sneaker Days, where they taught fundamentals of soccer and ran drills with the kids. Roth also hosted a Youth Soccer Clinic for local kids during Big Ten Tournament at Northwestern.
Competition:One of 11 players nationwide named to the 2006 Soccer America Men's College MVP team, which is the equivalent of a first-team All-America honor. Roth is also a 2006 First-Team All-Big Ten and All-Great Lakes Region selection. Roth helped guide the Wildcats to a berth in the quarterfinal round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament and a No. 8 final national ranking. He was named second-team All-Big Ten as a junior. He tied the Big Ten and set the Northwestern single-season assist record with 14 as a freshman in 2004.
